Engineering Today

Engineering today has moved beyond the conventional definition of the word and has expanded its horizons in every perceivable area which influences our being. Gone are the days when engineering was limited to the Civil, Mechanical or Electrical domains; today every field, conventional or non conventional, has some mix of engineering to it which is essential for the success and survival of the field. Disciplines ranging from forensic science to astrology all implement some or the other engineering principles which have enabled these fields to face the challenges of our ever advancing society. Everyday new frontiers are being created and these frontiers are then broken to create newer ones. 

We, the students of SVNIT, celebrate this spirit of engineering through Mindbend 2011 - Engineering new frontiers. This year, the annual technical extravaganza assumes an International character with troupes from Hungary and France mesmerizing the spectators with their ultra-athletic feats and technological illusions. A spectacular display of humanoid robots by the educationists from the National University of Singapore and the experiences of a Leading Scientist at LHC will add to the technical quotient of the fest. Workshops on robotic arm, cyber security and cloud computing will train the future engineers with today’s cutting edge technologies and concepts. Competitions based on core engineering principles such as Computer vision, mechanical systems, wireless communication, structural engineering, chemical analysis and reverse engineering will attract participants from all over the country. A panel discussion organized by NDTV Profit featuring some of the countries’ famous youth icons will provide a national platform for a healthy amalgamation and exchange of ideas  Our association with the Indian Institute of Management – Ahmedabad (IIM-A) and entrepreneurial competitions like paper presentations and business plan events will inspire and train the techno-entrepreneurs of tomorrow. A national level Quiz competition conducted by O’Brien, a Quiz master of national fame will put to test, the general knowledge of the participants. Mindbend brings to you a state of the art photography exhibition cum competition scrutinized and critiqued by the head of the leading photography institute of the country and a short film making competition which will cater to the arts and creative zeal of the participants and spectators alike. Even the school students have something to look out for, with a huge list of competitions and workshops especially designed for the school goers will prove to be an educative and fun experience.

With an expected footfall of 20,000 and total prizes worth 1 million (Rs.1000000 for those who are overwhelmed by numbers J), Mindbend 2011, the greatest technical festival in the state of Gujarat and one of the biggest in the country promises to live up to its expectations and create new frontiers in engineering technologies duly justified by the tagline.

As the year ends and a new one dawns, we always expect new things of it. And none of this can exceed the expectations for Mindbend 2011. This coming year, we at Mindbend 2011 expect to live up to the high standards set by our predecessors and convert Gujarat’s largest technical festival to an extravaganza. The 17^th edition of Mindbend is all about breaking boundaries, making it big and engineering new frontiers. Face Team will defy gravity at Mindbend 2011 with their daredevil basketball stunts and Nigel Mead will break all rules with his mind-blowing illusions. This time, it is not just the mega shows that draw you in, events are changing, we are improving and with a mega budget, we know we can make this an event that you would love to visit year after year. We at Mindbend have set new standards in terms of practical application of one's tech quotient. With our host of non-technical events to test your management and leadership abilities, we make it is not just an Engineering fiesta.

Having said all these, we sincerely believe that a person is never complete until and unless you have a creative aspect to your life. So, Mindbend 2011 is going to give you the chance to show your skills with video vision and a dedicated section for art and photography along with one of the biggest exhibitions of art, “Moksh” and photography, “Nazaarein” ever to be held in Gujarat.  As if this is not enough, for those who feel they need to learn more, a host of big names including Mr. Uday Kumar, the man behind the rupee symbol is going to be delivering lectures on "Interactive Design" and workshops will be conducted where you will get hands on experience of things you always yearned to know.
